How to Open a DST File
A DST file is a machine-ready embroidery stitch file. It is useful for production, but it is not designed to be opened like a picture or document. Use a stitch viewer before sending it to a machine so you can inspect what the machine will actually sew.
Open the file in a stitch viewer
Choose a viewer that reads DST stitch commands, not just the file name. A real preview should show the stitch path, dimensions and color stops.
Embroidery Toolkit reads the file in your browser. The design stays in the current tab instead of being uploaded to a server.

- 3Use Fit to canvas, then zoom into small details and outlines.
Check the production facts first
A design can look correct at a distance while still having an unexpected size, excessive jump stitches or a long travel stitch. Check the stitch count, design width and height, color changes, jumps, trims and estimated runtime.
Compare the dimensions with the hoop and placement you plan to use. A DST file does not tell you whether the selected hoop or garment is appropriate.
Know what DST does not carry
DST is a widely used stitch format, but it usually stores color-change positions rather than a complete, authoritative thread chart. A preview palette helps you follow the sequence, but verify the actual thread selection with the production instructions or original design file.
DST is also not an editable artwork source. For major resizing, lettering changes or density edits, return to the original digitizing file when available.
